Belgian artists-and-designers Pascale and Enzo fell in love at first sight when they met as teenagers at the Academy des Beaux-Arts. In 1980, motivated by their joie de vivre and a shared passion for jewelry making, they drove down to the Cote d’Azur and set up shop in Nice, France. Thus, the quirky costume jewelry label Les Nereides was born. Here are a few of my favorite pieces:

During a year’s sabbatical from her ad agency job, Carolyn Kan found herself in the heart of Florence in a silversmith’s atelier, making her first ring. Instantly, she fell in love with the work, founding her eponymous line a year later. Carrie K. jewelry eschews conventional jewelry design in order to celebrate the simple through artisan craftsmanship, refined design and consistent care.
